Counterpart receives honorable mention for PSA on domestic violence in Azerbaijan

October 23, 2013

Arlington, VA (October 22, 2013) — Counterpart International received an honorable mention in this year’s PR News’ Platinum PR Awards for its public service announcement on fighting domestic violence in Azerbaijan. The Platinum PR Awards acknowledges the year’s most outstanding communications initiatives in the highly competitive field of public relations.

The PSA entitled “A Child’s Sadness: Fighting Domestic Violence in Azerbaijan” portrayed a young girl’s tragic tale of facing domestic violence in her family.  Counterpart’s Women’s Participation Program (WPP) joined together with two partner NGOs – Clean World and Citizens’ Labor Rights Protection League – to create the PSA.

The PSA was aired on five national TV channels and distributed via CD to participants of our workshops, training, roundtables and conferences. Based on TV channel distribution data, this PSA has been viewed by 6.8 million people.

“We are truly humbled and honored to receive this mention. We seek to improve the status of women in Azerbaijan by raising public awareness and giving a voice to women in the political environment,” Ilgar Agasibeyli, Chief of Party in Azerbaijan says. “I would like to congratulate and recognize the wonderful work Counterpart and our partners have done in making this PSA a success.”

Counterpart’s WPP has released five public service announcements since June 2012, reaching millions of people in Azerbaijan. With each PSA, Counterpart raises the awareness of the sensitive issues with the Azerbaijani public ─ striking a conversation about change and community engagement.

The two-year Women’s Participation Program, funded by USAID, seeks to improve the status of women in Azerbaijan by raising public awareness and empowering more women to engage in political processes. It also develops the capacity of women-focused civil society organizations and government institutions that work on women’s issues.
