Patricia Abreu Fernández

Program Director, Dominican Republic

Patricia Abreu Fernández is the Program Director for Counterpart’s Dominican Republic office after previously serving as the country representative for Counterpart in the Dominican Republic starting in 2021. Fernández has represented the Dominican Republic in various environmental forums and technical delegations for the negotiation of environmental agreements. Additionally, she has been a guest lecturer in various seminars and conferences related to environmental education.

Fluent in Spanish, English and French, she has more than 20 years of experience in the environmental and sustainability area, engaging in various public and private roles throughout her career. After working for four years in various environmental projects for the public and private sector through the World Bank, in 2004 she was appointed as Director of Environmental Standards and from 2008 to 2020, served as Deputy Minister for Cooperation and Environmental Affairs leading the process of aligning international cooperation initiatives with the 2030 agenda, mobilizing funds from multilateral organizations and cooperation agencies for their implementation in the ministry to complement and strengthen its programmatic areas.
