Enduring Benefits of School Meals Programs

January 10, 2024

School meals programs help children get to school and help them continue going. Since 2008, Counterpart has been a proud implementing partner to USDA McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program. The program has improved the food security, nutrition, literacy, and primary education of children and their families in 48 countries.

The impact on individuals is immeasurable. At the recent launch of a new project in Mauritania, Ambassador Rashid Sesay our board member and a participant in a school meals program, voiced his appreciation.

Video Transcript:

“This was really touching for me and I have a personal attachment to that because I, myself, was a beneficiary of a school feeding program and I know how much that means to me. If you have not benefitted from it, you may not know. When I was [at the Mauritania launch] it brought back fresh memories of my own days benefitting from school feeding program. At times, that was the main meal for some of us, you know. After school, we went back home, there was nothing to eat.

It means a lot to them. You see them eating this food, you don’t know what it means, but it was very touching for me.”
