The White House Forum today is focused on the Sustainable Development Goals – or what is also known as Agenda 2030. ‘A plan of action for people, planet and prosperity,’ the agenda spurs the world to take bold and transformative steps to ‘free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and…to heal and secure our planet.’ The 17 goals, agreed to by 193 nations, place issues like climate change, access to justice, the creation of inclusive societies, and targeted capacity-building at the forefront of our global future. If we want to achieve such broad and lasting change for the future of our planet and those who inhabit it, we must build partnerships for the goals.

As Pape Gaye said today, “The Sustainable Development Goals force us to think outside of our silos.”
For over fifty years, Counterpart International has been an innovator, changing the way people look at and solve global development problems. And we have long known that we cannot do it alone. By forging strategic partnerships with governments, NGOs, entrepreneurs, academic institutions, and civil society organizations, we work to help community leaders catalyze change on the global stage.

Counterpart’s CEO Joan Parker is proud to be in attendance at the Summit today, noting, “The most important investment we can make is in local communities, because these public-private partnerships empower local leaders to deliver solutions that are sustainable, scalable and transferable.”

And that is exactly what we will all need to reach the Sustainable Development Goals. President Obama is correct when he says, “Together, we can deliver historic leaps in development.”
