COUNTERPART INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF THREE NEW BOARD MEMBERS

December 2, 2021

ARLINGTON, VA., — Counterpart International has announced the appointment of three new board members who will each help support the nonprofit’s global work in partnering with local communities and organizations to build inclusive, sustainable communities in which their people thrive.

We are excited to welcome these diverse individuals whose unique abilities and background position us to tackle the current challenges of our time. Ambassador Sesay has worked for decades at the grassroots level in multiple countries, and his diplomacy reaches into influential spaces of interest. A powerhouse in communications and marketing, Ms. Borlaug continues her grandfather’s legacy by bringing with her a unique background and point of view to further advance our mission. An alumna of our Global Women in Management (GWIM) program, Dr. Amaral will bring an invaluable, full circle perspective to our board,” said Dr. Ann Hudock, President and CEO.

  • Dr. Renata Amaral, Founder of the non-profit organization, Women Inside Trade, and serves as an adjunct professor at the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) in the Trade, Investment, and Development program. Dr. Amaral holds a Ph.D. in International Trade Law from Maastricht University in the Netherlands and a Doctor of Law degree in International Trade Law from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil).
  • Julie Borlaug, President of the Norman Borlaug Foundation, and Vice President for Corporate Communications and Public Relations for Invaio Sciences. Ms. Borlaug holds an MBA from the University of Dallas and a BA in Political Science and International Studies at Texas A&M University.
  • Ambassador Rashid Sesay, Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the UAE, India, and Bangladesh. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, Mr. Sesay served over ten years as the International Director of Programs at Heifer International. The self-professed “connector of people” attributes his success to his ability to not just listening, but to hearing people across cultural, religious, socio-economic, national, and other lines.

We are more than honored to have each of these accomplished leaders join our board. But the significance of the collective appointments is tremendous! Looking ahead, we are ever well-positioned to deepen our work in food security, inclusive and locally-led development, and women’s economic empowerment,” said Raúl R. Herrera, Board Chair.
