Counterpart International Appoints New Senior Vice President for Strategy and Growth

October 16, 2017

Arlington, VA — Counterpart International is pleased to announce that Dr. Ann Hudock has joined the staff as Senior Vice President for Strategy and Growth. Dr. Hudock joins Counterpart from Plan International USA, where she led the expansion of the international program portfolio and served as Vice-Chair of the Plan Federation Program Directors Forum. Under her leadership, Plan expanded its U.S. government program portfolio and increased its policy and advocacy influence.

Dr. Hudock will lead efforts to grow Counterpart’s global portfolio of work and will oversee the Business Acquisition team, The Program Quality and Learning team, and the Global Growth team. This unit will cultivate new funders and develop innovative approaches to promoting citizen voice and government accountability.

“We’re excited to have Ann join our team, bringing real depth and insight into the areas where Counterpart wants to expand our reach and impact. We searched long and hard for the right fit for this new position, and Ann brings with her highly-regarded experience and partnership-building. She joins an already strong team and brings new energy and ideas to propel us forward,” said Joan Parker, President and CEO of Counterpart International.

Dr. Hudock has also worked as a Managing Director at DAI, one of the largest and most respected international development firms. There, she expanded the client base by developing a strong portfolio of work with the UK Department for International Development, diversifying DAI’s largely U.S. government work.

Before joining DAI, Dr. Hudock was the Deputy Country Representative and the Acting Country Representative for The Asia Foundation in Hanoi, Vietnam. She received two medals from the Government of Vietnam for her service in fostering the bilateral relationship. Dr. Hudock was also the head of Democracy and Governance at World Learning in Washington, DC.

As one of the first Democracy Fellows at USAID in 1997, Dr. Hudock worked on the civil society team and provided field support to missions around the world. At the U.S. Department of State, Dr. Hudock served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, covering the Democracy, Human Rights and Labor portfolio.

“It’s a privilege to support communities around the world who are working to build a better future for themselves and their children. The ability of citizens to raise their voices is essential for improving livelihoods and increasing their role in decisions that impact their lives. The ability of governments to listen and respond, and to provide social services in a transparent and accountable way, ensures sustainability of these efforts. Counterpart is unique in how it brings together citizens and governments to advance common causes,” said Dr. Hudock.

Dr. Hudock currently serves on the advisory board for the University of Dayton Human Rights Center and is co-chair of the Society for International Development’s Democracy, Rights and Governance Workgroup. She is the author of NGOs and Civil Society Development: Democracy by Proxy? published by Polity Press in English, Chinese and Japanese.
