More than 300 civil society organizations assisted. More than 4,000 activists trained.

More than 3 billion people live in countries where freedom of expression, online communication and civic activism are closed or restricted. The people and organizations who advocate for an open and inclusive society in those countries are often risking their personal safety.

We work in some of the most challenging environments to provide demand-driven, customized support to civil society organizations, human rights activists and independent media to secure their digital presence. By partnering with technology experts worldwide, Counterpart has integrated advanced technical and country-specific knowledge into our global digital security work.

Services We Offer

  1. Capacity building and monitoring
Working closely with local civil society partners who are committed and community-trusted to address their own unique capacity building needs. Solutions include one-on-one consultation and advisory services, digital security trainings, in-kind and financial grants, training and mentoring programs, and vulnerability and staff assessments.
  2. Support for marginalized communities
We tailor solutions for the specific security risks that women and LGBTI groups encounter. Through threat profiling, baseline survey and assessments, targeted trainings, regional workshops and outreach activities, Counterpart supports marginalized communities with the resources and knowledge to reduce information security risks.
  3. Local solutions to information security threats
Counterpart has built partnerships with some of the most cutting-edge information technology firms in the US and overseas to provide our local partners with information security tools that address their unique challenges.
