“Last week, we experienced a tragic attack against our team members in Afghanistan. We mourn with their families and friends. Even in our shock and grief, we recommit ourselves to the mission they were so bravely protecting and enabling – to build inclusive, sustainable communities in which people thrive. In the days and weeks that come, we will find an appropriate way to honor their sacrifice and to carry on their memories.

We have received an outpouring of support for our team in Afghanistan and around the world. These messages were reminders during a trying time of just how many lives our work touches. I found strength in those messages. We heard from our partners, our former staff, government officials and supporters of our mission. They have reinforced how important and valued what we do is and that they will stand beside us in solidarity.

On behalf of our Counterpart family, I want to express my deep thanks for your courage and commitment. We are dedicated to supporting our injured and affected staff. We will remain vigilant and ensure we are actively managing the safety and security of our teams around the world. This may well prove to be a defining moment for our organization. From what I have seen in the last several days, I can say unequivocally that our resolve will not be diminished. Our work will continue undeterred. We will show the world and those that depend on us, the strength that it takes to overcome adversity and advance towards the aspirations we still have for the world.”
