Ocean Freight Reimbursement (OFR)
The Ocean Freight Reimbursement (OFR) Program is USAID's oldest, continuing support program. OFR offers small competitive grants to over 50 U.S. Private Voluntary Organizations (PVO) each year to reimburse the transportation costs for shipping donated commodities overseas. Participating organizations pay for other costs, such as commodity acquisition, warehousing, insurance, local transportation and distribution. This program has been critical to the success of Counterpart International's programs and operations across the world, allowing us to deliver and distribute 276 forty-foot containers of humanitarian commodities valued at $33 million, such as food, clothing and footwear, vehicles, and disaster supplies and equipment. These commodities have also helped us to outfit ill-equipped hospitals and clinics, and furnish orphanages and elderly homes.
Counterpart has been a beneficiary of USAID’s OFR Program since 1995. Through successful partnerships with organizations in the U.S. and target countries, Counterpart is able to provide much needed humanitarian assistance shipments to vulnerable populations in the following countries around the world:
Afghanistan, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Laos, Liberia, Lithuania, Mali, Mauritania, Maldives, Nicaragua, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia
Private Donors
Counterpart also works with dedicated private donors to leverage its ability to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations. Their contributions range from providing funds to acquire life-saving medicines and supplies to funding the transport of relief commodities. Counterpart’s ability to leverage its network of partners and expertise in commodity delivery and distribution makes donating through Counterpart efficient and effective. Through the years, Counterpart’s longtime partners have been fundamental in meeting critical needs of disadvantaged people around the world. Those partners include: Skylink Aviation Inc., LDS Charities, Orphan Grain Train, ISOH-Impact, Feed My Starving Children, Churches of Christ, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Books for Africa, and Hope Haven International Ministries.
