This project hopes to support the growing tourism sector in Belize and Guatemala in order to expand their economies and bring stability and prosperity to the communities. Counterpart International (Counterpart) will first carry out a participatory assessment of tourism policies in the two Central American countries to understand the sector's inner workings and accurately recommend improvements.
The efforts in Guatemala involve working with Guatemala's Protected Areas Council (CONAP) to adapt various guidelines for tourism services in protected areas.
Latest Update: After one year of implementation, an assessment and action plan to integrate biodiversity conservation into tourism policy have been produced in each country. With the support of National Protected Area Council (CONAP), guidelines for concessions of tourism services in protected areas are being designed.
