School in Moldova Works with Counterpart International to Improve Learning Conditions
The Auxiliary Boarding School in Grinauts-Moldova village in the Oknitsa region of Moldova is not just a place of learning, but also a refuge for many children who come from difficult conditions at home. Today, that refuge is better able to care for the children with new windows and a better water supply.
Thanks to a US Government grant of $10,000, the Auxiliary Boarding School of Grinauts-Moldova and Counterpart International (Counterpart) successfully completed a small reconstruction project (SRP) that replaced 51 old and broken windows with modern plastic windows. These new windows considerably improved the living conditions of the children attending the classes and residing at the Auxiliary Boarding School, keeping the living areas and classrooms warm and comfortable.
Several US Government representatives, national executives and representatives of international donor organizations and local administrations along with National TV Channel #1, Radio Moldova, and local newspaper journalists attended the Opening Ceremony in May 2007.
The reconstruction of the school represents an initiative to build a comfortable and nurturing environment for the children who are largely affected by difficult social conditions at home. The school itself has contributed to the completion of the project with tools and material for dismantling old windows and building window slopes and many hours of work.
Simultaneously, Counterpart's partner, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Charities), repaired the school's water tower and provided a new pump with an advanced electronic control and security system installed. The two projects have opened a new world for the kids and staff of the school, with warmer and more comfortable bedrooms and common living areas more suitable to learning.
With new windows and an improved water supply at the boarding school, the children are ready to learn.
