Humanitarian Assistance

Since 1995, Counterpart International (Counterpart) has delivered over $158 million worth of commodities to about 2.5 million needy people in the Republic of Georgia. Through the implementation of several humanitarian assistance projects, Counterpart has responded to the needs of the country's poorest and most marginalized. Donations include medical supplies and equipment, pharmaceuticals, food, blankets, tents and other equipment for emergency response, and hygiene supplies. Commodities have helped to give displaced people, orphans, veterans, persons with disabilities, multi-children families and the elderly the basic necessities for survival.

Community and Humanitarian Assistance Program:
CHAP is a US State Department-funded, rapid response humanitarian commodity distribution program that addresses critical needs of vulnerable populations. Food, clothing, bedding, hospital equipment, hospital supplies and pharmaceuticals are donated to the target groups.

Small Reconstruction Projects (SRPs) are short-term, small-scale renovations of facilities that serve a humanitarian purpose, such as orphanages, hospitals, and schools.  Counterpart works with local partners to plan and execute projects that make concrete, measurable improvements in the lives of those affected.

Counterpart's CHAP and SRP programs work in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus (just CHAP), Georgia, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Small/Medium Transportation Program:
The Small/Medium Transportation Program (SMTP), funded by the US Department of State Office of the Coordinator for the US Assistance to Europe and Eurasia, supports small to medium-sized US nonprofit organizations with transportation assistance to deliver urgently-needed humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations of the former Soviet Union republics. This program, which strives to improve the quality of life of the orphaned, ill, disabled, elderly and poor, is a true "citizen-to-citizen" program that connects organizations in the United States to communities in the NIS countries.

Counterpart's SMTP program works in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
