This project, meant to supplement the growing tourism sector of Belize and Guatemala, begins by carrying out a participatory assessment of tourism policies in the two Central American countries.
In Belize, the efforts go toward developing a new integral tourism policy, including a biodiversity conservation component in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation of Belize.
Latest Update: After one year of implementation, an assessment and action plan to integrate biodiversity conservation into tourism policy has been produced in each country. In coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation of Belize, the new "Policy of Responsible Tourism" is being developed. With the support of National Protected Area Council (CONAP), guidelines for concessions of tourism services in protected areas are being designed.
