Health and Child Survival
Maternal Health and Child Survival Programs

While the battle to lower child and maternal mortality rages on, threats such as malnutrition, pneumonia, tuberculosis, diarrheal disease and HIV/AIDS pose considerable challenges for the public health community.

Counterpart International (Counterpart) is rising to meet these new challenges through its work in Health and Child Survival. Outstanding program progress has confirmed that participatory project design and implementation achieves remarkable results.

Counterpart's programs provide a broad range of services. Over the past three decades, the organization has established comprehensive and synergistic programs in maternal health and child survival (MHCS) in areas of great need.

Our programs aim to:

  • Provide technical support to promote routine vaccination coverage by building partnerships, training workers and educating mothers/ caretakers.
  • Promote the recognition of pneumonia symptoms, early diagnosis and treatment.
  • Increase access to oral rehydration therapy, recognizing danger signs of diarrhea and encouraging immediate treatment.
  • Improve maternal and newborn health knowledge, care-giving and care-seeking skills.
  • Increase nutritional awareness and breastfeeding micronutrient supplementation.
