Health and Child Survival
Integrated Management of Childhood Illness

This integrated and transparent approach focuses on the well-being of the whole child.

Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) works to prevent and manage childhood illness, focusing on the six most important causes of infant and child mortality in developing countries: malaria, malnutrition, measles, neonatal causes, diarrhea and acute lower respiratory tract infections. By training health workers to use guidelines for assessment, classification, treatment and counseling of children and their caretakers, Counterpart International (Counterpart) builds up the capacity of local health systems.

Counterpart improves the health system activities needed to provide high quality case management to children coming to health facilities or outreach sites. Finally, mobilizing communities to prevent and manage childhood disease through recognition and seeking out preventative and curative care, Counterpart's program builds communities of stronger, healthier children.
