HIV/AIDS Programs

Counterpart International is working with local partners to address the crippling effects of HIV/AIDS on vulnerable populations.

Counterpart International's (Counterpart) HIV/AIDS strategy provides focused interventions on mitigating the impact of HIV/AIDS in communities as well as preventing the spread of the disease. This goal is achieved through creating independent programs and integrating interventions into existing programs. HIV/AIDS prevention efforts often target vulnerable groups such as tourism industry workers in Ethiopia or youth in Haiti. Interventions build on Counterpart's core capacities of community mobilization and behavior change communication.

Counterpart's HIV/AIDS programs aim to:

  • Conduct training in Voluntary Counseling and Testing, stigma reduction and safe sex.
  • Provide assistance to orphans, vulnerable children and adolescent groups, emphasizing the involvement of male role models.
  • Assist people living with AIDS with income generation, small enterprise development projects and home-based care.
