Counterpart International’s Humanitarian Assistance Small Reconstruction Projects (SRPs) are designed to address urgent humanitarian issues and improve the standard of living of beneficiaries by providing access to facilities and amenities that were previously lacking and/or by reconstructing and re-establishing sections or aspects of existing buildings. SRPs are intended for small public institutions that serve a humanitarian purpose such as shelter, health, feeding or education to targeted populations including orphans, elderly pensioners, hospital or clinic patients and school children.
Construction and reconstruction is geared towards small-scale renovation with results that are measurable and comprehensive and are completed within no more than six months after the start date. The projects are funded under CHAP by the U.S. Department of State Office of the Coordinator for Assistance to Europe and Eurasia (EUR/ACE) through small grants of up to $12,000.
In addition to the initial grant, SRPs have the further benefit of enabling and encouraging community involvement, whether through labor or reasonable amounts of additional funds to help expand the project. Moreover, we often work with several partner organizations that donate additional funding, commodities or services, greatly expanding the initial efforts.
Outside of SRPs funded under CHAP, Counterpart has completed hundreds of small reconstruction projects as a part of program work across our focus areas.
