Where We Work

Capacity Building

Counterpart International’s 45 years of experience has demonstrated that capacity building requires an evolving relationship with local partners.

In capacity building Counterpart International ultimately strives to move from acting as a mentor for local organizations to becoming a partner working alongside them.

Throughout this process, the transfer of knowledge and skills to local partners requires complementary adaptation to cultural attitudes and practices. Our capacity building strategy strengthens services and advocacy on behalf of clients and develops viable partners and coalition members at the local, regional and international levels.

We engage in capacity building activities to support sustainability. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) must be able to both engage constituents in a process of identifying needs and priorities and advocate for those needs with government and other key decision makers.

A healthy non-government/not-for-profit sector serves to link community needs with government policy. NGOs must be able to both engage constituents in a process of identifying needs and priorities, and also to voice those needs to government and other key decision makers. They must be agents of change.

Counterpart’s portfolio of NGO development projects all have the goal of strengthening the capacity of NGOs to provide services to vulnerable groups and communities and enhance citizen participation in sectors critical to the social and economic development of these regions.
