Counterpart receives honorable mention for beekeeping in Ethiopia training video

October 23, 2013

Arlington, VA (October 23, 2013) — Counterpart’s training video on beekeeping in Ethiopia earned an honorable mention in PR Daily’s 2013 Digital PR Awards for Best Video Infographic.

PR Daily acknowledges the year’s most outstanding work PR professionals and corporate communicators were able to achieve this past year.

The video—“Beekeeping in Ethiopia” was produced by Counterpart’s Ethiopian Sustainable Tourism Alliance (ESTA), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. It was designed to complement hands-on training—teaching farmers, new beekeepers and agricultural extension workers who work with rural communities about honey production and harvesting. The video also allowed those with limited literacy to access and understand the techniques and methods in proper beekeeping.

About 500 copies of the new training video have been distributed to USAID/President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and Counterpart’s local partners. The video is in Amharic, Oromiffa and English.

“We are truly delighted to have received an honorable mention. I want to thank our donor and recognize our team in Ethiopia for their great work in improving livelihoods by supporting community-driven economic development,” Joan Parker, President and CEO of Counterpart says.

The ESTA project aimed to enhance biodiversity conservation and economic development through sustainable tourism products, services and other opportunities throughout destination regions of Ethiopia. It worked with the honey producers to supplement their nutritional needs, increase the amount of honey produced and boost the producers’ income.

In addition to training, the project provided new beekeepers with modern hives and tools that will boost their honey and bee product production, and supported the formation of cooperatives and enterprises.
