Counterpart Connects CSOs to Armenian Parliament

Counterpart International, in partnership with the Armenian Parliament, has developed and disseminated the “Citizen’s Guide to the 4th Convocation of the National Assembly” to Armenian civil society organizations (CSOs). The Guide serves as a way to introduce the Assembly members and encourage interaction and dialogue between members and local CSOs.

The guide, which includes Parliamentarians’ biographies and contact information, is a practical tool for citizens and advocates working regularly with the National Assembly. It also provides general information on the Armenian legislative process, political parties and their factions in parliament, as well as staff structure and responsibilities. Despite the challenging political environment, rife with non-engagement, limited resources and fast turnover of Parliament members, Counterpart sees the value in encouraging cooperation and building relationships between NGOs and Parliament.

Have you used the Citizen’s Guide? Leave a comment below to tell us how.

Counterpart was able to publish and disseminate 5,000 copies of the Citizen Guide throughout 2009. Most importantly, Counterpart took a major step towards the institutionalization of Parliamentary outreach services to civil society by convincing Armenian Parliament to co-fund the initiative, assisting in collecting data (including photos) and designing the guide.
