Eamon Kelly

Eamon began serving on Counterpart International's (Counterpart) board for the second time in 2009.  He serves as Executive Director and Distinguished Professor of International Development and Technology Transfer at the Payson Center of Tulane University. He was the first social scientist to be elected Chairman of the Board of the National Science Foundation. Eamon is the President Emeritus of Tulane University having served as its president for seventeen years. During his tenure, Tulane was noted not only for its academic and financial growth but also for having the highest percentage of African American students of any major private research university in the United States. He is the former Chairman of the Association of American Universities comprised of the sixty leading research universities in the United States and Canada. Eamon is the original Chairman of the Satellite Working Group, which established the first nationwide private satellite system in the United States, for the benefit of the Public Broadcasting Service; a by-product was the creation of the National Captioning Institute providing closed captioning for the hard of hearing. His current teaching, research and service interests focus on sustainable human development and organizational leadership and management in the developing world. He currently spends most of his time and effort in Africa.

Married with three sons, Eamon lives in New Orleans, LA.

On why he supports Counterpart: "I support Counterpart International because it does great work in the developing world.
